Communities Against a Radioactive Environment
Over 300 peaceful protesters recently gathered outside of Livermore Lab to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima and to say "never again." Speakers included famed whistleblower and nuclear weapons analyst Daniel Ellsberg, "hibakusha" (survivor of the bombing) Takashi Tanemori and our Executive Director Marylia Kelley. The rally was followed by a somber march to the gates of Livermore Lab where No Nukes Action organized a traditional Japanese Bon Dance. Protesters staged a "die in" and their bodies were chalked on the street. Then 57 protesters were arrested for blocking the road.

Hundreds of non-violent protestors marched to the gates of Livermore lab on the 69th Anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, 30 of whom were arrested in an act of civil disobedience. This year's events included a rally, march and direct action on the morning of Wednesday, August 6th. This year's theme, "Failure To Disarm: Holding Our Government Accountable" pointed out ongoing nuclear weapon "modernization" programs happening at Livermore Lab and elsewhere in violation of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. Attendees stood in silence at the time of the bombing and heard inspiring talks on how we can make our government accountable.
