Stop the Bomb Where It Starts

BREAK THE SILENCE ABOUT NUCLEAR WEAPONS

Livermore Lab is celebrating its 50th anniversary with the slogan: "Making History. Making a Difference." Under contract to the University of California, the Livermore and Los Alamos Labs have designed and tested every nuclear weapon in the U.S. arsenal. That work is still going on today; new weapons designs focus on creating "more useable" and earth penetrating nuclear weapons.

On August 3rd we will gather to remember the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and say never again to nuclear war.

For more than 50 years, the world has been held hostage to the threat of nuclear annihilation. While people around the world overwhelmingly support nuclear disarmament, their voices have been silenced by a handful of governments led by our own who claim for themselves the right to possess and threaten the use of nuclear weapons of mass destruction in the name of "national security."

The Nuclear Posture Review reveals US contingency plans to use nuclear weapons against seven nations: Russia, China, North Korea, Libya, Syria, Iraq and Iran. The open-ended "War on Terrorism" has given the Bush Administration a blank check. How far will this administration go to enforce the US global empire?

We must stop the bomb where it starts. Now, more than ever, we need to unite in Livermore against preparations for nuclear war in order to prevent the unthinkable from happening again.

Twenty years ago, thousands of nonviolent protesters converged in Livermore Lab to demonstrate against the nuclear arms race. Now, instead of "liquidating the legacy of the Cold War," the Bush administrationís real nuclear weapons agenda is "fewer, but newer". The conflict between India and Pakistan demonstrates anew that the fate of our planet is at stake. Nuclear weapons must be abolished. We must break the silence and make our voices heard.

***Join us in a celebration of 20 years of nonviolent resistance***
